Frequently asked questions.

The questions we get asked most often. If you have something not covered below, call 0485 672 664 or send us your question through the Project Brief form and we will come back to you.

About the service

What areas of Sydney do you cover?
We work across all of Sydney Metro from our base in Maroubra. That includes the Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, CBD, North Shore, Northern Beaches, Hills District, Sutherland Shire, Parramatta and surrounding areas. Travel is included in the quote, there is no additional callout fee within Sydney Metro.
Do you do residential work or just commercial?
Both. We work on residential homes, strata complexes, commercial properties, and as a subcontractor to builders on larger projects. Around 60% of our work is residential and strata, with the balance commercial and trade.
Can you work directly with strata managers?
Yes. We regularly work with strata managers and committees across Sydney. We provide written reports suitable for committee meetings, photo records of completed work, and can stage projects across budget cycles where the scope is large.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry public liability insurance and workers compensation insurance, and we are happy to share certificates with builders, strata managers, and clients on request before any work commences.
Do you provide insurance certificates?
Yes, insurance certificates are provided on request before work commences, at no charge. Builders, strata managers, and commercial clients typically request them as standard, and we expect that.

Quoting

How do I get a quote?
Three options. Call 0485 672 664, email enquiries@remedialbrickworks.com.au, or use our online Project Brief form which lets you upload photos directly. The Project Brief form is the fastest path for builders and contractors who want a quote without a site visit.
Can you quote without a site visit?
Often, yes. Most remedial problems can be diagnosed from a few clear photos, close-ups of the affected area, plus wider context shots showing the elevation. Our Project Brief form is designed for this. For complex jobs, structural concerns, or where access matters, we will arrange a free site visit.
How long does it take to get a quote?
Within 24 hours of receiving your enquiry, same day where we have capacity. Quotes include a written scope of works, materials specified, and a fixed price for straightforward jobs.
Do you provide a written scope of works?
Yes, every quote includes a written scope. For builders and contractors this can be passed straight to the contract administrator or client. For homeowners it is a clear plain-English description of what we will do, in what order, and what the result will be.
Is the site quote really free?
Yes. There is no callout fee, no charge for the assessment, and no obligation to proceed. We come to site, look at the problem, and give you a written quote within 24 hours.

The work

How long does repointing take?
Roughly 15 to 25 square metres per skilled day for standard repointing, less for heritage tuckpointing where the work is much finer. A typical single-storey elevation runs three to five working days. Larger projects are programmed and quoted accordingly.
Do I need scaffolding?
For most single-storey work, ladders and trestles are enough. Two-storey and above generally needs scaffolding to do the job safely and to a good standard. Scaffolding can be included in our quote, or we can work with your existing site scaffold.
Do you match existing mortar colours?
Yes. We sample your existing mortar, match colour, sand grade, and binder type, and prepare a sample joint for sign-off before bulk works begin. Matching properly is what separates a good repoint from one that looks patched.
Can you source matching bricks for fretting repairs?
Yes. We hold a small stockpile of common Sydney heritage bricks and have established sources for harder-to-find stock. For distinctive walls, we will visit a salvage yard with you to confirm the match before committing. Where an exact match is not possible, we propose blended placement so the wall reads as one.
Do you provide SWMS?
Yes. Safe Work Method Statements are prepared for every job and are available before site mobilisation. For builders and commercial sites we tailor the SWMS to your site rules and induction requirements.
Do you take progress photos?
Yes, as standard, on every job. Photos are sent through the project and a final photo set is provided with the invoice. They are useful for your records, for warranty support, and for strata committee or insurance documentation.

Pricing

How much does brick repointing cost in Sydney?
Prices vary widely with access, mortar match, and elevation height. As a rough guide, partial repointing on a single-storey elevation typically starts in the low thousands; a full house repoint on two storeys can run into the tens of thousands. We will only quote a fixed price after seeing the job in photos or in person, generic prices over the phone are misleading.
What affects the price?
The biggest factors are the area to be repaired, the height (which drives access and scaffolding), the mortar match required, and whether matching bricks need to be sourced. Heritage tuckpointing is significantly slower and more expensive than standard repointing per square metre.
Do you charge by the metre or by the day?
For most repointing jobs, we quote a fixed total based on a per-square-metre rate. For variable work, diagnosis, isolated repairs, multi-trade coordination, we may quote on a day rate. The basis is always stated in the quote up front so there are no surprises.
Can I get a staged quote for a large project?
Yes. For larger projects, particularly on strata or commercial buildings, we are happy to scope the entire building, prioritise by severity, and stage the work across multiple budget cycles. Each stage is quoted separately so you can commit to the work in stages without locking in the full programme up front.
